Showdown is when more than one
player remains after the final betting round then this players show the cards
in their hands, weather they were used in the final hand or not, for the
winner/s to be found. In such a situation, players put forward their cards for
everyone to see then the dealer reads the cards to determine and announce the
winner. The showdown is governed by a set of rules i.e. Lowball Rules
Some players tend to lie when
stating the cards in their hands verbally and this calls for the need to
display the cards. This act is considered unlawful and if caught, may lead to
expulsion from the pot leading to a loss. Sometimes errors occur during the
game like incorrect amount of chips being put in the pot and it’s the
obligation of any party involved to state and correct if noticed. Otherwise,
such errors should be minimized as much as possible to make the Showdown fair.
Any player can request to see the
others hand if foul play is suspected, even if the other hand is mucked.
However, some players tend to misuse this e.g. a player requests exposure from
the other hand just to see the other player’s cards. If found this normally
attracts a warning or expulsion from the table. There are rules which are being
made to limit the player’s powers to see the other mucked hands.
Every player in the table is
entitled to any information exposed to even one of the players during an active
game. Like when one player accidentally or intentionally sees a card/s when
they are dealt, every player in the table has the right to see the cards too.
If a player sees the cards but is not involved in the betting round, the
information should be held until the round is over.
These cards should then be shown
to all the players after the round because the player might use it in the next
round. For the sake of speeding up the showdown, a player who believes he/she
has the probable winner should show the hand as soon as possible.
